Hundreds of activists gathered at Columbus Circle to march to Faux News Headquarters demanding they stop the “hate speech” and “fearmongering” that has been ramping up over the last few weeks. Specifically, Bill O’Reilly and Glenn Beck, the two most egregious characters who make millions off of being bigoted and hateful against not only Muslims, but the LGBT community, and the immigrant communities.

Coalition Participates in “March Against Hate” on Saturday, October 23
Join us in protesting Fox News this SATURDAY, OCTOBER 23rd
Our coalition will be participating in a march and rally of Fox News this Saturday (October 23rd). We’ve compiled a sample of the egregious islamophobic, homophobic and xenophobic comments made by Fox News hosts, contributors, and guest over the past few years.

New Yorkers Say Stop the Bigots, Stop the Hate!
Hold Fox News Accountable!

Over the past few months there has been an escalation of hate crimes and bigotry growing throughout our city and country. In particular Muslims, immigrants, and LGBT (lesbian, gay bisexual, and transgendered) people have come under attack and been vilified by hate-mongering politicians such as Paladino and encouraged by media outlets such as Fox News. We must stand together to say no to hatred and violence no matter what group of people is targeted.
Fox news must be held accountable for their hate. On the View, Bill O’Reilly said that “Muslims killed us on 9/11.” This type of racism encourages violent retaliation against all Muslims. When bigots like Bill O’Reilly, Glenn Beck and others from FOX NEWS attack gays, muslims, and immigrants each day on mainstream television, we should not be surprised when these attacks begin to take place.
In the past month, at least six LGBT people have committed suicide. A Muslim boy was beaten in his school while being called a “terrorist.” Hate crimes and harassment have increased against Latinos in schools, workplaces and on the streets. The progressive community needs to come together and take a stand against hatred in all its forms. If we do not stand up to this hate, it will continue to grow!
Join the ad-hoc committee March Against Hate in saying
NO TO HATRED! NO TO BIGOTRY!
AN INJURY TO ONE IS AN INJURY TO ALL!

Coalition condemns City revocation of Sheepshead Bay mosque permit
PRESS RELEASE
October 21, 2010
New York, NY — According to news reports, the New York City Department of Buildings has reversed itself and announced “further investigations” before reconsidering the approval of building permits for a planned Islamic community center and mosque in Sheepshead Bay.
The City appears to have caved in to racist and anti-Muslim sentiment. Rallies opposing the mosque have been dominated by ominous rhetoric about “war” between Islam and “the West,” and baseless slanders linking the Muslim American Society to terrorism. Speakers at the most recent protest, on September 26, claimed that “Islam has been fighting the West for 1400 years,” and praised Qur’an burning.
While some locals may be genuinely concerned about parking and noise, that’s not how mosque opponents have raised the tens of thousands of dollars that they say they plan to use, in part, to pay private investigators to spy on the mosque’s developers. Nor does the City’s claim that the mosque developers simply need to “clarify some issues” adequately explain its reversal after approving the plans submitted by the architect only two days earlier.
Mosque projects across the United States are facing bigoted opposition, from Lower Manhattan and Staten Island to Murfreesboro, Tennessee; Sheboygan, Wisconsin; and Temecula, California. It’s shameful that New York City has taken a step to encourage those who are attempting to deny freedom of worship to U.S. Muslims.
The New York City Coalition to Stop Islamophobia condemns the revocation of the building permits, and calls for the City to allow construction of this as-of-right place of worship to proceed immediately.
The New York City Coalition to Stop Islamophobia is a grassroots organization comprised of concerned New Yorkers who have mobilized and will mobilize continually against racism, bigotry and hatred directed at our Muslim, Arab and South Asian communities. IN THE NEWS: Staten Island Teen Reports Abuse Because He is Muslim

Muslim teen beaten, called a ‘terrorist’ by classmates says he stayed silent out of fear
BY Justin Tinker, John Lauinger and Bill Hutchinson
DAILY NEWS WRITERS
Monday, October 11th 2010, 9:50 PM
The victim, a 16-year-old high school freshman, told his father and the police of the constant abuse he endured, prompting the arrests Sunday of his teen tormenters on suspicion of hate crimes.
“[They] punched me in my groin, and I fell to the floor. They started kicking me, and calling me ‘You f—in’ terrorist,’ ‘You f—in’ Muslim,’” the victim, Kristian, told the Daily News.
Word of Kristian’s emotionally scarring ordeal comes during a disturbing spike in hate crimes across the city, highlighted by Friday’s sadistic Bronx gang torture of two teens and an adult because they were gay.
Kristian – his voice shaky, his hands clenched in his lap – and his parents spoke to The News on grounds their last name not be used.
The boy, the American-born, only child of Trinidadian immigrants, said the abuse began in October 2009 while he was a student at the Edwin Markham Intermediate School. He said the almost-daily abuse didn’t end until he graduated from the school in June.
He finally told his father when he began his freshman year last month at Port Richmond High School and saw two of the bullies sitting in one of his classes; he hasn’t returned to class since.
“I think I can’t go through a year like this again,” said the soft-spoken victim, who first told his story to the Staten Island Advance.
The four suspects – three 14-year-old Latinos and a 15-year-old African-American – were arrested on charges of assault and aggravated harassment – both as hate crimes. They were all released to their parents and are expected to be formally charged as early as today as minors. Their names were not made public.
Kristian said the bullying began when the thugs first called him gay and quickly escalated to him being battered for his Muslim heritage and blamed for terrorist bombings.
“I was very scared that if I told the teachers…they would beat me up more,” Kristian said.
He said he remained silent, hoping and praying they would stop.
“It kept going on,” he said. “The kids were in my class and they would see me in the halls.”
He said one of the teen thugs brazenly attacked him in class, in front of a teacher.
“[He] touched me here and here,” he said, pointing to his left elbow and forehead.
The teacher scolded the menace, saying, “‘Why did you do that for? He’s a good boy. Leave him alone. Why do you keep bothering him?’”
Outside of class, things got worse.
“Four kids punched me everywhere. They would spit in my face, and kick and punch me. I had injuries,” Kristian said.
Once he was kicked so hard he had blood in his urine and had to go and see his doctor.
His father, whose first name is Shaffiate, said Kristian, a once-promising student and gifted piano player, has given up music and his grades have suffered.
“He’s afraid to go outside alone,” the father said.
The family wants him transferred to a new school.

Dutch anti-Islam MP Geert Wilders goes on trial
Geert Wilders: “I am sitting here as a suspect because I have spoken… nothing but the truth”
The Dutch anti-Islam MP Geert Wilders has gone on trial in Amsterdam accused of inciting hatred against Muslims.
Mr Wilders, whose statements have included comparing the Koran with Hitler’s Mein Kampf, told the court freedom of expression was on trial.
If found guilty, he faces a maximum sentence of a year in jail.
Mr Wilders’ Freedom Party is the third biggest in the Netherlands after June’s elections, and is expected to play a key role in the next parliament.
Prosecutors have brought five charges of inciting hatred and discrimination, and the trial will scrutinise statements he made between 2006 and 2008.
In one such statement, in an editorial for the De Volkskrant newspaper, he wrote: “I’ve had enough of Islam in the Netherlands; let not one more Muslim immigrate.
“I’ve had enough of the Koran in the Netherlands: Forbid that fascist book.”
In 2008, he released a short film called Fitna which infuriated Muslims by juxtaposing images of suicide bombings with verses from the Koran.
Mr Wilders, in a bright blue tie and with his trademark shock of blond hair, waved to supporters as he entered the court complex in Amsterdam.
A small group of protesters had gathered outside court and riot police were on duty nearby.
In an opening statement, he told the court that he was being persecuted for “stating my opinion in the context of public debate”, adding: “I can assure you, I will continue proclaiming it.”
His lawyer, Bram Moszkowicz, then told the presiding judge that Mr Wilders would thereafter exercise his right to silence and not answer questions during the trial.
When presiding judge Jan Moors said it appeared Mr Wilders was “avoiding discussion” Mr Moszkowicz accused him of bias and moved to have him substituted.

The Brooklyn Ink reports on the racist rally of the Voorhies Mosque
http://thebrooklynink.com/2010/10/01/14771-brooklyn-mosque-rally-turns-ugly/
Fri, Oct 1, 2010
Brooklyn Life, Featured
by Vegas Tenold
It was supposed to be a rally about parking. Somehow it turned into praise for Qu’ran burning, declarations of war and enough vitriol to warrant almost 20 police officers.
Almost before it began, it became clear that the crowds lining Voorhies Avenue for last Sunday’s rally against a proposed mosque had different concerns than the local residents.
Earlier this year, the Muslim American Society bought a lot on a residential part of Voorhies Avenue announcing that they wanted to build a community center with an after-school program and prayer rooms.
Neighbors oppose the plan, saying that the area is residential and that the street can’t handle the additional cars that the community center will bring. They also fear that the mosque will bring down the value of their homes.
On Sunday, houses on Voorhies Avenue were plastered with signs reading “Religion is not an excuse for zoning violation” and “If it doesn’t fit then don’t build”. Bay People, a group of residents, had arranged the rally. Their arguments, however, quickly drowned out.
At noon, at least 100 people crowded the sidewalk, with more people arriving. Many were holding American flags. Others had draped themselves with them. Signs reading “NO M.A.S.” referring to the Muslim American Society, were ubiquitous. Several signs linked the M.A.S. to Hezbollah and Hamas, and a large banner announced the presence of the Brooklyn Tea Party. Across the street were the supporters of the community center, holding signs that said “We Say No To Racist Fear” and “Muslims Are Welcome Here”.
Few of Sunday’s speeches mentioned the concerns heard earlier about parking and home values. John Kenneth Press of the Brooklyn Tea Party said in his speech that “Islam has been fighting the West for 1400 years. Do they believe in freedom in the Middle East?”
People shouted “Hell No!”
“Do we believe in it here?” asked Press
“Yes!” screamed his supporters.
After Press had left the podium a woman who identified herself as a realtor, claimed to oppose the mosque because the M.A.S. had overpaid for the site. “Let me get you a better deal!” she pleaded with the demonstrators across the street.
A young man pointed at the mosque supporters across the street. “Unlike these terrorists, I stand in front of you unmasked! This is a war! And we’re all soldiers!” He then praised the burning of the Qu’ran calling it a miracle of free speech and asked the crowd if “we need to see Brooklyn and America raped by people who aren’t from this country?”
The next speaker gave his speech in Russian.
The mood became increasingly vitriolic. A woman with a sign saying “NO MOSQUE 1 GOD” screamed at two Muslim girls with American flags. “Let go of the flag and get back to your own country!” Shouts of “Racist!” from the other side became louder. More police arrived.
Steven Peskin, who lives nearby, stood with the people supporting the mosque. “I don’t think the mosque should be built.” he said. “This is a residential area, and I think it will be too crowded. But I don’t agree with those people. It’s not about Islam and the West. It’s about parking. Why are these people here?”
The rally ended with the loud speakers repeatedly playing an audio clip from 2000, where Muslim American Society’s Mahdi Bray appears to be supporting Hamas and Hezbollah.
Ibrahim Anse, the community center’s project manager, was not surprised by what happened on Sunday. “It’s all politics, and they’re using these people for a public show.” He said that many of the protesters are outsiders brought in by the Brooklyn Tea Party. “The Tea Party are using the people on Voorhies Avenue.”
John Press said that the concerns of the Brooklyn Tea Party are the same as those of the residents on Voorhies Avenue. “We are all worried about people teaching hatred in our communities.”
Press says that the Muslim American Society are affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, an Egyptian organization that supports Hamas and Hezbollah. The FBI have found no such links, but Press says that he has his own evidence.
“It does not make us safer to have the vanguard of Muslim conquest in our communities,” he said. “There is a clear and concerted effort to increase the Muslim population in America. These people don’t like us.” He does acknowledge that it is unlikely that the people who demonstrated against him on Sunday, most of whom were women and children, are actual terrorists. “Most Muslims are law abiding citizens. They don’t have the energy to do violent jihad, just like most Christians don’t have the energy to live like Jesus.”
Coalition Counters anti-mosque Rhetoric in Sheepshead Bay
The NYC Coalition to Stop Islamophobia, joined by members of the community who were both Muslim and non-Muslim, and joined by other organizations, were able to counter the hate spewed speeches given that morning from 11 am to 12:30 pm. At least 75 people turned out to support the proposed mosque site. The property owners opened up their gates and let us stand with our signs that read “We Say No To Racist Fear, Muslims are Welcome here!” in front of the location.
Those on the opposite side of the street were outraged that we were there, and spent most of their rally countering our appearance.
At the end of their sound permitted protest, we were able to make our own speeches, loud enough for all to hear. Mosque supporters waved flags and sang “This Land Is Your Land”, and represented a diverse group of people who believe in not only the freedom to practice one’s religion, but that of all humanity to peacefully coexist.
